one of my friends is hoping to get a new graphics card for his PC as a birthday present. however, since the PC is at university, and he is not, he doesnt know what length and width of graphics card will fit. it currently has a 8400GS, which i have noticed is quite small compared to other graphics cards.

his current PC is Packard Bell iXtreme Q6600 2.4Ghz

can anyone tell me if something like a 5850, or a GTX460 will fit in there please, or if he is going to need a new case, on top of a new graphics card and power supply

Really need an inside picture of the case to make a judgment, there could be HDD bays and other stuff restricting the available room.

this is the best i can do so far, from this forum of all places:

looking at that, i would say theres a good few centimeters behind the motherboard which certainly doesnt have anything in the way of it, so im thinking it should fit as long as there are enough hard drive bays to move the hard drive to if it was in the way

Looks like he should be able to fit a new card in there. Some of those SATA connectors might get blocked, but the bottom two look like they're still be usable.
i think he only uses one for the hard drive, because he has an old IDE DVD drive, but well spotted on that point - i never even thought about it
