To cut a long story short I have this as an option to get home from Australia -
(wan to be home in time for the Arsenal & Chelsea game you see)

17hour train journey on the Ghan railway (saves about $110 over a 3hour flight and $30 or so on accomadation)
Then
a 12 hour greyhound bus journey over night (again $25 on a/m and saves about $70 on a 2hour flight)
Then
Fly home via Dubai with Emirates airlines on a 24hour flight. :o

So ok you can read books listen to music and watch as many films etc - but do you think that will all be too much back to back. 3 nights of travelling without a bed etc?

Other option is if I hang around a bit and get some crapy airline thats a 30hour journey and would save about $200 but wouldnt have to do it all back to back -

What do you think ?

that's also assuming everything goes to plan, with that many changes there is so much to go wrong. I'd personally find the extra dosh and get a proper flight home.

True - but the flight does not begin until the monday morning.
train wont be delayed and have hours to kill afterwards anyway and the Greyhounds are always on time - dont see another car for ages!! lol

Just thinking leave saturday afternoon and arrive home tuesday afternoon lol

Funny thing is the 'easier' way home is $200 cheaper but with an awful airline and means I'd have a few days to kill

Not overly looking forward to the travel home lol
Trust me killing time in a place you've done everything is pretty hard specially when you dont want to waste any cash!

Sorted it all though 0-/
Got a 17hour train (wanted to do it in the end - is through the outback after all!)
Then a 1hour flight to melbourne (only cost $60 more than the 12hour bus in the end) and then the flight home with Emirates!! whooooooo bring on tehe 300+ selection of movies!!
