hello guys,

my sister in law is hopefully going to have a pc upgrade for xmas this year!

atm she has a acer home machine with a amd athlon x2 3600+

now that is absolutely pants lol its soo slow it barley plays wow and sims 2 on low settings!

now i have 2x2gb xms3 1600mhz sticks spare i will use in the upgrade, if i invest in a amd athlon x4 cpu and am3 board with a gtx260, will she be able to play skyrim at all ?? or most of today's games at a reasonable graphic setting ??

or should i invest in a better dual core chip instead on a athlon x4 ??

cheers fellas :D

i currently have an athlon x2 6000+ and its starting to struggle, i would highly reccomend a quad-core and a newer graphics card like a gtx550 or sumthing

thanks for the advice, any reason or is it just intel blowing amd away again! lol

also any rough price they go for second hand and how much new ??

nope, but they sell for about £30-50 so im going pick one of them up for her :)

and standard psu about 450w max as its a purple top sold pc! :(

not to sure on budget yet, but me and the partner are looking to spend as least as possible so im thinking searching the MM is the best bet ??

anyway.. its £250 the main components and add a second hand gtx260 will be £300.. now that quite pricey from what i would like to spend so if i searched MM i should be looking about £200 ?? maybe less

I'm with stulid here, the Sandybridge i3 is a great 2 core CPU and will run using a cheap PSU.

Intel Core i3-2100 3.10GHz (Sandybridge)

If you can't afford that the Sandybridge Pentium line is also a good budget line. The G840 closely matching an E8500 in performance.

By using a Sandybride board there is massive scope for upgrade.

Wow is massively CPU bound to 1-2 cores so 4 cores wouldn't make a difference. (I suspect sims is too)

For the graphics card a HD 6670 or HD 5670 would be good. Certainly the best cards that don't require additional power connections.

yeah, i would get her the lower range AMD cards but its skyrim that worries me about them :/ shes really excited about it
