of course, however i would swap the i3 for and i5k chip as you have a z68 board listed there which has no benefits to be gained using an i3 with it or if your budget is strict you could change the z68 board to a cheaper h67/h61 board

No benefit?

If it's a budget type thing he should get a 2120 and the z68ap-d3.

Future upgradability, with performance that can't be laughed at anyway.

I was told to get it for future upgrades tbh i'm quite stupid when it comes 2 chosing a PC. Thanks 4 the info m8.

My rig (in sig) romps through GTA4, despite numerous mods etc.

I don't think the OP is going to struggle! :)

I was wondering if CPU makes much difference to GTA4?

Game has run poor on 3 setups now (not that I upgraded just for gta) :p
Q6600/x1950
Q6600/GTS250
Q6600/HD6870

all others games = massive improvements with each upgrade just GTA4 that has a problem

I found it playable @ high with my setup and my previous GTX260 tbh

The 260 was also fine with the other games I owned, until BF3 came along and rendered it useless!:p :( Its the only reason I have my GTX480 now! :o

GTA4 is a oddly power hungry game. The unmodded game looks really dull and generally washed out with some awful banding effects. The enb series mods make it look really nice, yet don't work with steam versions of the game sadly -.-

CPU does definitely play a role in how well it performs, with overclocked cpus appearing to have an impact on the performance as its not multicore optimised at all. Its kind of like world of warcraft, which favours raw single threaded power compared to slower multithreaded processes.

Either way, the move to the i5 was a good one and that system will play anything out on very nice settings indeed. Enjoy your new system mate!

GTA runs great here on i7&gtx570...

Needs a good quad core cpu ( at least 3.2 ghz out of c2q, prefferably 3.6+), and also reasonably heavy on gfx, at least something like a gtx260...).

It ran ''okay'' on my old setup, [email protected], GTX260 216sp + oc), but still dropped to the high 20's in terms of framerate sometimes. Was playable fine but not great.

well the game has been 'playable' each time with my cards when i select the right settings that is, the newest 6870 seems to handle vehicle density much better then the last 2 cards with medium quality settings with high shadows (night off) however the GTS250 seemed to do the draw distance better then the 6870 can, am looking the get maybe an i5 bundle next but not for this game I will wait untill i find a new game worthy of an upgrade (GTA V maybe) :D

you didnt mention what res your playing at? my i7 920 at stock with ati 5870 at stock and 1920x1080 could play gta iv all on very high apart from shadows on medium no problem
