Will this setup be able to cope with Vista?

Not the one in my sig. I have two computers, the second one has older hardware.

The specs are:

Pentium4 2.8 Ghz
1 GB PC2700 RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro
80 GB Hard Drive [IDE]
Soundblaster Live! 5.1
Gigabyte 81PE-1000 Pro mobo

I've checked the radio software and it seems that SAM Broadcaster does run on Vista, but it is better on the 32bit rather than the 64bit.

This is no problem since I may get the retail version of Home Premium and install the 32bit version on that machine :)

I used the Vista readiness tool on the PC in my first post yesterday and it said it was fine.

However, the ATI readiness tool told me that I needed to upgrade my CPU to at least an AMD Sempron. How can this be true? MS say a CPU at 800Mhz can run Vista [albeit very craply, I imagine]. Since the max stock speed of a Sempron is 2.2Ghz and my CPU is 2.8Ghz, is it possible that the ATI tool told me to upgrade because my CPU was NOT an AMD one?

I'm currently running Vista RC1 and the Office 2007 beta on my PC which contains:

Pentium D 805 (2.66GHz)
1GB RAM
ATi X800XT
120GB HDD
Audigy 2

Apart from the Audigy 2 not working (no drivers from Creative being the reason) everything is fine. Sure it's using slightly more memory than XP (SP2) but otherwise the performance is very nice. As most games don't take advantage of my dual core CPU it's not as strong as your CPU when it comes to gaming (in most cases). Most will say you need 2GB RAM for Vista and I would agree with that to an extent (because there are games I play in XP that could do with more than 1GB) but performance with 1GB RAM is far from poor.

Erm, there are drivers for the A2 on vista....

That machine should slide through vista no problemo. :)

The last beta drivers expired and you can't download them anymore. Unless they've put new ones up?

Yes they've put some up today. :) Time to give them a whirl.

to a certain degree i agree with this, but i can still get the page thrashing just from having apps open, 30-40 open pages with firefox and a few other things going seem to hammer the 1gb of ram unfortunately.
