Will this spec work?

It's been a few years since I last built a PC and my current build is really showing it's age now. I want to build something that'll last me (I've had my current build for 6-7 years) and I don't want to wait months for 3080s to come back in stock, so I don't mind forking out for the 3090 so much.

I'll be using the PC for gaming - mostly flight simulator and other open world stuff so the extra VRAM will be helpful. I've already got an NZXT H630 case I'll be reusing. I'm not so bothered about RGB and tempered glass since it'll be sitting under my desk.

Will the below work, or do I need to swap anything out?

Cheers!

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £3,864.26 (includes shipping: £0.00)

The cooler comes with paste already.
I probably have some paste in the house tbf, but better safe than sorry if it turns out to not be very good

That RAM looks a really poor choice. Expensive and not very fast, any reason for it?
You're right, the 3600Mhz version is a tenner cheaper.
The processor page recommends 3200-3600Mhz. The only cheaper 3600MHz kits are Team Group or Patriot, are they any good?

3600 MHz works great, I have c18, but 3600mhz C16 is better. Are you ever planning on upgrading the memory? Seems a lot to spend on a PC with only 16gb of RAM, people will tell you you dont need more for games and whilst that is mostly true my modded cities Skylines save loads up 34gb of my 64gb.

Also Ryzens prefer 2 DIMMS over 4, at least that certainly was the case with the previous gen, so aim to try and use just 2, eg if your plan was to buy 16 GB now and 16gb later, just buy 32 now on 2 DIMMS (2x16).

Absolutely agree:

Nice 32GB kit:

Hell, even 64GB kit for total overkill:

Or go with some 8 Pack B die if you're into finding with RAM timings.

Good point - I've swapped it out for the 32GB Patriot kit - It's a no brainer for a small amount more.
Looking at better timings, it's an extra £70-£150 for C17 or C16 kits for performance I'm probably not going to notice outside. Probably not worth it to me. It's an expensive build, but half of that comes from the GPU, the monitor and the VR headset

Did you consider the Index and a cheaper GPU over the Rift S and the 3090?

Or even the Quest 2 and having the option of wireless or wired?

I personally would switch out the SATA SSD for a 2TB NVME, they're faster and neater.

Agree with Bud on that... i see 22GB of RAM used in FS2020, spending that cash I would go 32GB.

I did! I think a 3080 would be ideal, but it looks like it's going to be a few months before I can realistically get my hands on one unless I go to a scalper. If I'm paying that much, I might as well get the better card while it's in stock

The index and the Vive are definitely better headsets, but there isn't really the room to make proper use of them in the room they're going in. The rift s will do for what I need

Yeah my thoughts were the same, I needed 64GB despite everyone telling me otherwise, that was expensive enough as it is, I paid £260 for basically the same as was linked above but the Corsair equivalent 1.35v 3600mhz C18, not saying that Corsair stuff is in any way better, that was a few months ago.

Same, NVME drives are not really any more expensive then regular SATA per GB. They are much neater, save space and extra cables. Speed side of things although the stated speeds are like 10x faster, dont be fooled by that in practise (in games) there is basically no difference, but from a practicality side it makes sense.

Overkill gpu for that monitor imo. 100hz at 1440.. would work well on a 3060ti.
You're right. I've upgraded it for a 4k 144Hz one.

Swapped the Samsung SSD for a similarly priced WD NVME.
I thought there was only one slot on the board haha.

Thanks guys, I've hit buy now. Can't wait until it arrives!
