I've recently bought the Asus Lyra 3 pack to improve the Wifi in the house.

I've read that in time Asus are rolling out additional updates to migrate the Lyra products into the AiMesh system

The Lyra devices are TriBand and use the 3rd band to connect to each other.

I'm debating getting an Asus VDSL Router so i can completely do away with anything Vodafone related. However the only router i can see which includes Modem functionality is "Dual band". Will this cause issues with it connecting to the Lyra devices?

Having had a quick glance these appear to be like every other mesh system in that they also can act as your router.

If that is the case you just need a VDSL modem to connect between them and the phone socket.

Yeah that was my initial thinking, but then i thought it might give better reach to use a VDSL Router and then place the 3 lyras around the house to give better range.

Are there are modems you recommend? I've been reading and i know the Openreach HG612 seems to be favorable but i'd prefer something slightly nicer looking if possible as it'll be on show. I can only really see the Netgear DM200 and Dratec Vigor 130. The Netgear doesn't seem to get great reviews and the Dratec seems awfully expensive.

I'd use a HG612. They're cheap and they work.

I'd consider a HG612 a neater option than most wireless routers that are currently available. I certainly wouldn't buy an expensive wireless router unless it was guaranteed to fully integrate with your Lyra system.

Yeah that's why i'd been eyeing up the Asus routers as they're integrated into the mesh (or at least will be in a future update)

And will they refund you if it doesn't actually happen and/or doesn't work properly? I wouldn't spend any money until the functionality is available and verified.

Good point.

The Lyra setup should be here today so might see how things go over the next week or so once setup. If it still seems crap i'll pick up the HG612 and just make small changes to check how things go rather than trying to do it all at once.

If you're plugging that system into your existing router you'll want to be looking for an access point mode. If it's left running as a router you'll have double NAT which can be a problem.

I'd also be disabling the wireless on the existing router.

Not sure if you went ahead with anything but Asus CS just advised me that you can now use the Lyra devices with AiMesh equipped routers. It's something I've just started looking into.

Ah interesting. I've ended up selling the Lyra's and going down the Unifi route. But thanks for thinking of me :)

Going well. Had a huge issue with the initial setup and trying to get things working on a Raspberry Pi but ended up using a windows laptop and all is going well since.
