My work laptop is coming to the end of its life and I need to replace it. I've got the Samsung NC10 in mind as its small, lightweight and has good battery life.

However its running XP Home and my work machine is XP Pro so I'm not sure whether the OS will suffice.

Will the following work with XP Home:
- Join the work domain and synchronise with shares on the work server running Windows SBS 2003?
- Synchronise with MS Outlook and handle all my mail?
- Run a VPN connection with a 3G dongle to connect to the work server for email and access to shared folders etc?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm not sure what you do for work, but I could not imagine running a netbook as my work machine. They are brilliant, I own an NC10 myself, but they do have some limitations.

You can't join the domain, but you can store network credentials against your local user account. This would allow you to have the same permissions as you would have logging on as said network user, allowing you access to whatever shared resources you have on your domain machine. Synchronization is still possible, as is connecting to Exchange through Outlook.

In theory the VPN will work as above also.

Personally, I'd just get a corporate grade OS though.
