Will this all work together?

I am trying to build a cheap machine to run freeNAS and this is what i have come up with.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket 939) - OEM
MSI GeForce 6200 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
DFI LanParty UT RDX200CF-DR Crossfire (Socket 939) Motherboard
Crucial 512MB (2x256MB) DDR2 PC2-4200C4 Dual Channel Kit (CT2KIT3264AA53E)
Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 80GB 800JD SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM
Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
x 2
Pioneer DVR-112DBK 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM

cheers

in past experiences, servers get a big boost if there is more ram in the system. But it really depends on what you will be using the server and freeNAS for. if its nothing intensive then 512mb should be fine.

It should be fine then. If you wanted to you could lower the motherboard to a cheaper one, but overall it looks great.

think i will just stick to the one i have as i need the sata connections.

am i right in saying freenas installs withouts windows or linux?

You do have a slight problem there as socket 939 and the motherboard don't support DDR2 and you will need a cooler as the CPU is OEM. I take it you already have case, PSU and optical drive?

So I'd suggest just buying the Retail Venice which is only a couple of pounds more and remarkably even cheaper than the ones in Clearance also matched Geil PC3200. You could also consider getting a mATX socket 939 motherboard with onboard graphics to save cash although I don't know how FreeNAS supports the graphics. :)
