Going to get some headphones that I can use a vmoda boom pro mic on, buying a dac because my front headphone port on case has gone and this is the amplified port and the rear motherboard one is not amplified and rubbish compared to front. I don't want any of the dacs with mic in as you are very limited in choice, my plan is to buy a dac, use the splitter on end of vmoda boom cable and run the mic with 3.5mm extension cable to the motherboard to keep it clean. Will this work fine since using mic on motherboard but having external audio device? will it also work if I completely turn off the motherboard audio then a usb mic dac.

It should work fine in theory, just be aware the ground line is often shared between audio and mic lines, having them plugged in to separate items *could* have earthing issues but unlikely.

There are quite a few half decent dac/amps with microphone in that are maybe worth considering for £100 -£200

With the Creative X3 and GSX1000 you do get mic monitoring if that is a useful feature (a must for me with closed back headphones).

Yea thats it, i remember reading somin about earthing and maybe having an issue but I couldn't remember, mic is a ballache because I don't want a gaming headset, tried the Uni anitilon but its annoying having two wires I thought Vmoda and fidelio x2hr would be posh and just get a normal DAC and run the mic straight to PC with either usb or 3.5mm. I like the Hel but bit pricy in UK and the fulla3 looks a bit weak, I basically want a DAC for life. What are the two switches on the hel? I want to be able to switch from headphones to my speakers coming out the back but without unplugging my headphones, I read it doesn't have a headphone preamp switch, no idea what that means, is preamp refering to the line out at the back in this case? as you can tell im clueless to all this, I also want to rig up some nice monitors to it eventually, can I do this with basic 3.5mm line out, obviosuly need some adaptor cables but it will work right?

If that don't work, I'm thinking maybe a cheap standalone mic is way forward, I barely talk when gaming, its just for callouts, what is the range of these things, will I have to lean in to use it or will it pick up from 1m away fine?

I'd look at the Creative X3, it's a nice volume control on your desk, you can plug your speakers in the back, headphones in the front, and can toggle between them by pressing a button on the top, no need to unplug anything, and it has a mic input with mic-monitoring..

DAC/AMP wise, it's more than adequate for the X2HR, they are very low impedence, and the X3 supports up to 600ohm headphones, so with the X2's I think it'll blow your head off.

Plus it has surround sound for gaming, and even a phone app to help etc..

Whilst you could get a separate DAC/Headphone amp etc, I think the laws of diminishing returns applies, unless you spend £200+ to get something next level any of the above mentioned will sound fantastic with the X2HR's.

Thanks, yea ive looked at this but just looks very plasticy and cheap in reviews, you're right though does everything I need, ive clipped my cheap zalmen mic to the underside of my monitor so solved my mic issue, so not needing the mic input now so much, I rarely use it, just for call outs.
