Will this work?

I currently have my NTL broadband connected to my PC via a Linksys router (which is upstairs) and have one cable running downstairs to my TIVO (pvr) which uses the internet to download program data.

I also want to connect my Xbox 360 to this downstairs connection, so can I just add a network switch to share this connection?

At the moment I have to unplug one or the other which of course is not ideal.

Just wondered if the router & switch would work together ok.

Yep, that will work fine. I had a similar setup in my house. Well, it went router -> switch in bedroom 1 -> switch in bedroom 2 and into this I had my computer and xbox connected.

So a router and switch will be fine.
