Will this work?

I have a Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard and im buying a E8400 to go in it, i think that will work but will i lose any big performance by running the CPU in the older chipset board?

Also i want to get a HD4870 will the PCI 1.0 slot slow the card down?

So long as it says it supports the 45nm CPUs, it will work fine. And no, the 1.0 graphics slot will not bottleneck your graphics card significantly.

Thanks for the posts, i think i will scrap the board and get a newer one as i dont have a CPU to upgrade the BIOS.

What is a good all round board these days? I hear good things about the P5Q series.
