Hi guys

I have a 4 year old mac book air which hasn't had an iOS update since I purchased it.

I use it for work and have thousands of files on it. More importantly I have thousands of emails organised into loads of folders for reference. I use mail but its not an iCloud email account its a work one - pop/smtp.

If I update my iOS to the latest one will everything remain in tact or will my inbox, emails, folders get deleted?

I really can't afford to loose anything....

The fact it uses POP isn't ideal. Regardless of not if it would delete emails during an upgrade, I'm make a back up for your mail folder, just in case something did go wrong.

I take it as you're talking about Macbook Air, you mean OSX, rather than iOS?

Yes mate Macbook air and OSX.

I don't really want to be in a situation where I need to start restoring emails and folders manually one by one and recreating my mail set up....?

You should be able to export your mail boxes to a backup file, which should keep folder structure and what not. You possibly may need to re-do any rule sets if something did go wrong.

As it stands, the upgrade should do just that, upgrade, rather than wiping. Do you have a hard drive spare that you could use as a time machine to make a full system backup first? For absolute worst case scenario.
