will we ever se external graphics cards?

for use with laptops exc?
as in you can conect a graphics card like you would a external cd drive mabey using more powerful conectors, but would it be possible to do?
and has there been any resherch or development by nvida or ati in this area?
im sure lots of people would love to have a mobile laptop and when at home bung on a external graphics card and play games on it.
a external 285gtx for a 13'' laptop would be awsome

I doubt there's an external bus standard that can chuck data around fast enough for it to be useful...

true the week link in this would be
1. power supply, need one to run the card
2. conecting the thing to the laptop, hopefuly there will be a new type of conection good enough for this in a couple of years.

There is a PCIe external standard... Ati made some noise some time ago with an external 3870.

only fujitsu took up the idea on their laptops and no one else followed.

would have been realy good if all the companys joined. but i gues its a dead idea untill someone gets a multi purpose conector that will also be usefull for other things aswell as an external graphics card.
