Somewhere in the middle.
Is there a chance of the 360 ever having an internet explorer, or similar?

i think it would be nice to be able to use it for surfing the net at times too, maybe with a keyboard mouse combo.

Any plans for this happening?

From what ive been told there is very little chance of it happening because MS thinks it will hinder Windows sales.

Eh? I doubt that would be the reason. People don't just use PCs for surfing the web.

I expect we will see Internet Explorer 8 in Xbox 3.

Both the ps3 and Wii have a internet browser, are you saying MS are going to wait 5 years until they bring out a browser on their home console.

Out of the all 3 of the home consoles makers MS (with their back ground) was the most expected to have a internet browser with their console, even tho people claimed that live was the best feature of the original xbox nothing like an internet browser come along and now with the 360 having the xbox live arcade for demo and so on and the way its set up you would think that a web browser of some kind with be easily available. but none has appeared, so this must mean what ever reason kept a browser out the original must have kept it out the 360 as well.

My best guess would be pressure from the window department of MS, You have to remember that MS isnt all one big happy family and the windows part of MS may feel threatened by this.

Thing is, what percentage of people are going to actually want to use a web browser on their TV downstairs? Generally, people are going to have their consoles connected to a TV in a living room or bedroom, sitting away from them. Often it's going to be an SDTV, so internet at a resolution of 854x480 will look pretty shocking. I know I wouldn't want to use it at that resolution. Even on a decent TV running 1280x720 or 1920x1080, the fonts are going to be TINY, and you'd need to be sitting right up close to the TV to actually see them on something like a 32in TV.

Internet for TV has been trying to take off for ages, just nobody seems to buy them. Sure we have the broadband era now, but for the most part, people are just going to want to stick their PC on and use it for the internet there, as you can do so much more than just browse on the PC.

I think Microsoft should release a web browser for the 360 if only to say "look we have a browser to" I mean lets face it it's not gonna cost them much to do is it. they could just adapt I.E.7 and make it available for download on Live and it will stop Sony & Nintendo saying "you can only browse the web on our systems".

DaveyD - I have a HTPC in the lounge and my family and I often use the internet perfectly well at 1360x768 and it comes in handy having the ability to just browse the internet in your lounge without needing to go upstairs and turn on a PC etc.

With the ability for users to create (XNA I believe) I'm sure they could create a browser?

I'm not too sure though as I haven't looked into any of that.

And given the choice of going out and buying Visa or browsing the internet on the 360 what do you think people are going to chose.

Also Opera have proved it with the DS that something with low res can be used to surf the internet and it can do it well, and you don’t think Nintendo and sony are going to release browser with their home console that no one can use.

Here is the Ninteno internet browser.LINK
