¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was wondering if they may release a patch someday or would it require something a little more?

I have software that only works on Windows XP 32-bit, so am reluctant to change...

its the same with vista 32bit iirc, 32 bit software is limited to the amount of memory it can use.

being able to use more than 3gb isnt the issue, its the fact its limited to 32 bit processing from the way i've read you're post, in which case you need the 64 bit version of the software before you could move to vista 64.

No due to the way 32 bit addressing works. However Windows 2000 and 2003 server use an extended 32bit set that allows you to use more

^ PAE mode requires software to support it in order to gain any advantage. Such software is few and far between and those that are are almost always server software like SQL Server.

To answer the OP. No. This isn't a limitation of x32 Windows either. It is a fundamental limitation of the hardware.

Ahh, ok... I may as well stick with 2gb of RAM then while I'm running Xp 32-bit. :) Hopefully I'll get an update for my software at some point so I can go to 64-bit eventually...
