Ill wait untill they either bring out a duel Blueray/HD-DVD player or its obvious that one of the formats is going to win.
I just know that if i get one or the other early on the one i didnt get will be the format winner ....and yes i did buy a Betamax
Ive been offered a toshiba hd-dvd player for a good price its still more than £200 though so i am gonna wait till the duel players come out cause at the mo i dont really think its worth it because A. theres no films on both formats out at the mo and B. my dvd player is the best thing in my av setup at the mo and it cost me £329 nearly 2 years ago so i dont wanna part with it anytime soon
I believe there is at least one manufacturer that is licenced to produce both , so I dont see why as long as its technically possible for a reasonable price
I am interested in both formats and really hope they can both prosper
I'll only get one when the PS3 comes out as (if I'm correct) the PS3 will be running a Blueray Drive in place of the DVD drive!... (thats why its been delayed sooooo much!!)
I don't think we'll see a clear winner in the format war either..
Instead I think we'll see something similar to DVD-R / DVD+R. HD-DVD and Blu-ray will probably battle it out for quite a while, and instead people will end up buying universal players which will probably be released before the end of the year.
I'm very loath to pay a huge sum of money.
I see the cheap option being to add an appropriate drive to a PC. When DVD first came out, drives for a PC were under £200, whilst players were £500+.
So this week I ordered my quiet PC, which will have an appropriate graphics card and enough grunt to deal with HD/BR DVD once they're out.
