quite happy with my laptop, had it for about 6 months or so. 2ghz i7 lenovo x201s, 4gb ram with the 1400x900 screen and extended battery, i like having 7 hours with wireless on and love the fact its an ultraportable.

started with the standard 320gb 7200rpm drive, replaced that with a 120gb ocz vertex 2e, wasnt happy with the lack of space so i bit the bullet and went with a 300gb intel 320 ssd.

it doesnt do games but its now my day to day machine with the desktop being relegated to gaming only.

My dad's laptop packed up so I've just got him an Acer 5552 which turned up today, specs are:

Phenom II x3 2.1GHz
4GB DDR3
500GB HDD
Mobility Radeon 4250
15.6" HD LCD

Quite impressed with it so far and definitely glad that I went for 3 cores as it's much nippier than the T7200 lappy that it replaced :)

Got fed up of having a laptop with a 17 inch screen and having it always run so damn hot, so went shopping on Friday and came home with an Asus A52F Core I3, 4 Gig ram and 500 gig hard drive, have to say I'm really pleased with it not quite as solid as the HP but much much quicker :D

Dell Vostro 1720 17"
Core 2 Duo P8700
4Gb ram
300gb Sata2 hdd
Nvidia 512m 9600m GS
W7 pro 64bit.
Runs pretty well, had an elitebook 8730w before this in my previous job which was a little funkier. Thinking about an SSD drive.

Well mines the GX660R

msigx660ra.jpg

i5 2.53ghz (2.7ish turbo)
6GB Ram
2x500GB HDD
Ati HD5870 1GB
Good speakers (for a lappy at least)
1920x1080 res on a 15.6" (bit small but looks pretty)

It's a well awesome little lappy :D
Recently found out its got upgradable graphics slot too. Takes a HD6970 so seriously considering downsizing a bit on the desktop, beef this up with SSD+Graphics upgrade and start using as primary machine. Will see how much it fails at keeping up with my desktop and I think i'd miss the big raid.

Do you have a link for more info about that upgrade please? The GPU in this is what is putting me off.

Thanks,

G

FredFlint/stu.artd,

How long have you had the M18X? Have you noticed any signs of the paint peeling off ever so slightly around the hot-keys above the chiclet keyboard? (Mainly around volume keys.)

Mine has happened again about 3 weeks after have that part of the laptop replaced, just wondering if I have a defective laptop and if that warrants a replacement as I haven't had this long as after paying nearly 2 grand for it, I'm rather ****ed.

It's little wonder you're unhappy about it.
I've had mine for a month and haven't noticed the paint peeling so far. It's not something I've read much about regarding the Alienware laptops, so hopefully it's not a widespread problem. You going to call back and complain again ?
I'd try and keep hold of the old panel that sits above the keyboard if you can as I've read the clips on it are quite easilly broken if you choose to open the laptop up to access the 2 memory slots behind the keyboard.

I have had it since the 26th of last mouth. I did not know it was paint, thought is was just solid plastic. I have a spare surround as they sent the m18 with the wrong keyboard so I called them and they sent me a UK keyboard and surround. When I changed the keyboard I almost snapped the surround as I left a screw in but got it done in the end.
