Wimbledon 2022

I really don't know what happened that let her win every match and the final of the US Open, maybe just some freak luck and the stars all aligned. But I don't see her tennis as anything other than average.
She only beat 2 seeds along the way, 11 and 14 in the quarters and semi's

Fernandez who she beat in the final had to play seeds 2,3,5,16

Obviously played really well to win but had a pretty easy route to the final and then played someone just as young.

Her tennis has completely changed - at the US she was just going for every shot, as she's such a newcomer. She won a couple of matches and her confidence grew and grew, and she was hitting harder and harder and just blowing people away.

She's no longer able to play with that freedom as there's an expectation on her, and she's overthinking things more and more, and playing much less aggressively as a result. She's still got the ability, but 99% of the difference between 1 in the world and 100 in the world is in the head and hers isn't there right now.

She'll never win a tournament in the same way as she'll never play with that amount of freedom again. She's still got all the technical ability, but the question for her now is whether she wants to put the hard hours in, and learn to win matches the difficult way, when things aren't going to plan. The reason the top players win tournaments frequently is that (a) they get their head right more often than not, and (b) they solve problems and work out a way to survive even when their game is off. That's what Emma now needs to learn.

I hear she's been through 3 coaches in 10 months. I don't think that's a particularly positive sign. I know she's only 19 and potentially has another 2 decades of professional tennis in her life.

Tennis coaches often specialise in certain areas no? Hence multiple coach's early

That won't have helped. In an ideal world, her first coach would've been happy to travel around with her but he wanted to stay at home to coach his kid so she's not had any consistency in her tennis life since the US Open.

The lady Emma played was on a good run and in good form for herself, was better on the day.

I don`t see anything to worry about, it is a hard game with tough tough competition.

I just read the story on him. I remember when he was worth something like £80 million many years ago, so it was shocking to read he went bankrupt and then hid assets to avoid paying debts. He's apparently doing half of his two and a half year prison sentence so should be out around this time next year. He'll never get to be a pundit on BBC anymore as his reputation is tarnished. Real shame as I always liked his commentary too. Apparently Sue Barker and McEnroe have been criticised for sending their best wishes to him on air.
He'll find work elsewhere though. Plenty of channels broadcast tennis.

Don't forget she got to the 4th round of Wimbledon that year too.

She used to hit flatter shots, and hence fast shots. She's added more topspin, but it's slowed down her shots a fair amount.

Added to that, She doesn't seem to have great footwork nor does she have tenacity in terms of chasing down balls and seemingly lost causes.

All that being said, this isn't a bad loss for her. It's against a quality opponent who's previously been ranked higher than Emma ever has, and who is a good grass court player.

Emma will have a difficult time after the US open as her points from that will drop off and she'll plummet down the rankings. That will limit the tournaments she can gain entry to without qualifying, but also means she'll play lower level tournaments, which might help her.

She ought to ditch the LTA though who are currently supporting her in her training. It's long been known that their methods and training is sub-par, a few players have criticised them in past and cut ties. Especially when it comes to injuries.
