I'm setting a new laptop up, the primary user will be my wife but my little son may also be on it for simple java based games. I am going to tie the access down so my wife can't plague the machine with unnecessary add-ons etc so was going to set up three users -
  • Admin user (basically me)
  • Wife (standard user)
  • Son (standard user)
However since Win 10 has an inbuilt elevated admin access would it be better to
  • Make wife primary user (and therefore admin access)
  • Create son as standard user
  • Activate Win 10's elevated admin access
  • Amend wife's account to standard user
Is there some "best practice" in such a scenario or reasons why I should go one way or the other?

I always create a backup administrator user even on machines with multiple admin level accounts.
Its saved many a rebuild over the years, folk are incapable of remembering passwords.
