I can navigate through the hard drives on my PC (internal and external) using the left mouse button, but as soon as I click right (for a new folder, or to cut and paste for instance) the window locks up and the windows title bar states it is not responding.

Any ideas why?

Does it work after about 10 seconds, are the drives in power save mode, and you've to wait for them to wake up?
Happens with my mechanicals, but not my SSDs just part of the power saving fucntions.

I think its linked to some software that hooks into the fight click context menu, use something like shellexview and disable anything non microsoft to see if that solves it. If that works re enable things one by one until you find the offender.

OK, i uninstalled 7 zip, and it worked for the first day, then its back to how it was before...

The only other shells running are my AVAST anti virus, and a "secuROM context-menu" shell from Sony DADC. A search for "securom context-menu" reveals others have the same problems.
Will disable this and see how things go...

I've disabled "secuROM context-menu" using the shellexview, and the explorer windows are still locking up. Googling the file name and path "C:\windows\SysWOW64\cmdlineext_x64.dll" brings up mixed pages, some saying its evil, some saying its needed.
I'm running out of ideas here, lol...

Create a new user account and see if it does it in this account too.

It won't be 7zip causing the issue. This is about the only Explorer hook that I totally trust.

Was having this exact same issue, up until five minutes ago!

Followed nightmare99's suggestion and downloaded shellexview...disabled 'Apple Photostreams shell extension' and bingo! Seems to be working fine now, and having no issues right clicking.

Thought I'd actually removed all traces of anything 'Apple' when I ditched my iphone, but obviously not.

Cheers nightmare99! :)
