Hey squad, pickling my head here to work out what is wrong with this machine.

My old rig handed down to the daughter for light gaming, was a clean OS build etc and is always up to date from a driver/patch perspective.

Never missed a beat in it's long tenure with me and the only hardware difference since then is the PSU as I kept the original (EVGA loveliness). This now has a Cooler Master V series 550W Gold PSU.

Now, machine was fine for months. Never had an issue

Until it did :/

No matter what my daughter tried, the machine kept restarting. She has to resort to turning off the switch which nobody likes

I have done a bit of digging and diagnostics and have come up with nothing.

In fact, my main focus was on the OS, power settings, using SFC, restart on failure........I mean, i found settings that I didn't know about :D but nothing made one bit of difference.

I then tried a live CD ( think it was Knoppix or something I had lying around ) and upon shutting down from that, it still started up again.

I am bamboozled team and would appreciate some direction.

The PSU seems to carry a 10 year warranty if indeed it is related to that.

Cheers in advance

I had a situation where USB devices being connected/disconnected/even nudged? on the case io sockets caused power on. System wasn't in sleep mode either. Not saying this is your issue but perhaps disconnect case io or Usb stuff and test.

Try disabling fast startup and hibernation and manually purging the hibernation file, restarting and re-enabling as appropriate.

This is a fair point. Will disconnect and try

Throwing this out there for future troubleshooting

BIOS battery

Wasn't low enough to lose time or report a problem, low enough to cause this bizarre behavior.

Fixed now anyway, thanks peeps
