On the road....
On turning on my computer this morning, I've found I have no icons on my desktop (bar the Recycle bin) not installed anything recently, last thing I did on it was a bit of on-line banking....

I've checked my desktop settings (right clicked on desktop/view) and "Show desktop icons is checked.....

Any ideas?

Google refers to checking desktop settings and an issue with an application called InfraRecorder - which I don't have installed.....

Help!

Cheers. :)

I cannot remember Win 7 100% as never liked it but does it not have the old "Desktop Cleanup Wizzard?

Its in the same window where you would set what desktop icons to show or hide.

Win XP, not sure if retained in Win7 :

If not try this if not Win 7 Home version:

I followed the instructions in the link only to find it works in Win 7 Pro, not Home Premium, which - typically - I have!

Thanks though. :)

Anybody else?

Are you sure you are virus/spyware free?

Run free Malwarebytes.

I have Malwarebytes Pro - come to think about it, its the last thing I ran prior to shutting down last night, it found a few issues and fixed them, I don't recall what mind you.

There must be a log, and a restore point/remove from quarantine if it messed up something.

I have v2 Pro also, was another new Beta out the other day though.

Its set to automatically save logs, but, nothing there in the log list....

Quarantine is empty, I routinely delete everything from it....

For the time being, I've manually restored my shortcuts (right click/send to desktop from my Start menu) just wish I knew why this happened.

I appreciate your help though. :)

It cleans up desktop icons/shortcuts sometimes even though they are still active (not sure why).

It will by default have an auto schedule if PC is idle or if you changed it to a schedule (mines is every Fri 17:15).

Once you check the boxes for what it can and cannot clean up in the clean up section it will follow this in its One Click Maintenance and Auto Maintenance settings.

Just something simple to add, right click somewhere on the desktop, goto view, and at the bottom of the list make sure "show desktop items" has a tick by it, sometimes its the simple things.

Soz, just noticed you tried this.
