Hey guys,

I'm having some problems with my PC and I need some advice please. I have been using Win 7 64 bit as my main OS for a month or so without any problems until today.

Windows update popped up saying there were updates available. I updated as per usual but the PC started to run really slow. So I restarted and that didn't help, in fact it got worse. I thought it may be some registry thing so I ran CC cleaner. In the middle of a scan i got a BSOD and restart. And now every time the PC tries to boot into windows I get a BSOD. Same when trying safe mode. System restore and Startup repair won't work and I've tested my RAM, CPU, GPU and PSU in another system and they are fine. Any ideas? Or will a fresh install be my only option?

Somebody else may have some better advice... Unless you have something on their that means you couldn't format, I would just do it and start again.

I have a sneaking suspicion I’ve just done the same thing :s did a bit of a registry clean, restarted, and it didn’t go well :p. Win 7 can't repair it, and for reasons I can’t understand, ["security protection must be enabled on this drive" - I think it is :s], it won’t let me restore either. Is there a way to fix the registry using the CMD? Or a way to let me restore, any ideas that avoid a complete format and start again would be greatly appreciated

Before editing the registry (either manually or with a tool) you're really supposed to take a backup. You'll be able to get your files back quite easily provided you haven't encrypted the drive.

Sounds like a format/reinstall is the fastest and most straightforward solution.
