i have both and im not sure what to use. with 4 gb or ram wich will be fastest and most reliable? if i wanted to dual boot would have to partition the HDD? thanks

xp is dead and rubbish.
W7 64bit all the way. However if you are playing multiplayer games with punkbuster. Then punkbuster may not work in w7.

Windows 7 is the fastest by far, XP is not totally dead as their is still a lot of apps which only run right under XP. For instance many music production apps run a lot better under XP than Windows 7 or Vista.

If you can install 64-bit and dont rely on old and obscure drivers, then definately go for it. Remember you can install 32-bit apps on a 64-bit OS, so the only real issue is driver support, for which so far Windows 7 doesnt seem to suffer from... i've not had any driver issues yet.

And obviously your full 4GB memory will be usable under 64-bit... 64-bit has more pro's than con's, though im not yet convinced there's much of a performance difference (if any) apart from it being able to access more than 4GB total system memory.

If people are still in 2 minds whether to go with XP or W7, why not dual boot?

Or try Windows XP Mode from your Windows 7 desktop - You get XP for free ;)

Personally i wouldnt bother with XP anymore and will probably dual boot Vista and W7 as i always like a 2nd os in case i cannot boot in to the main one for some reason.

But i only use Vista to play Call of Duty :/

XP is FAR from dead... Windows 2000 hasn't died it's death yet.

However for the home user, there is really no reason not to go with Vista/W7.

World at War doesnt! Keep getting booted :( Saying that, i aint tried it recently.

Ive never managed to get the mic working in COD :/ Works fine in TF2

The mic thing is a bug running on Windows 7 for COD4 for certain soundcard chipsets.

There may be other workarounds for WAW.

I'd still move to Windows 7 regardless. Its worth it.

Ive tried getting mic to work on 3 different soundcards on CoD - none work

Just updated Win7 to build 7264 and gave WaW another go and it works :D
