Hi, apologies if this was i the other thread. I received my copy of win 7 yesterday and installed. I thought ms had to remove internet expolorer from the eu versions, but mine loaded ie8 as part of the install. I'm not complainig but when did it change. It also asked if I wanted to upgrade, again I thought the upgrade option was missing from the eu version.

No to both questions.

Basically MS said they would provide a browser choice menu - as such they can include IE 8 and over an upgrade path from Vista.

I imagine the only reason that you're not seeing the browser choice menu is because you got it early.

i bet the people at opera/mozilla/etc are well ******* off. with people getting their hands on windows early, it's unlikely they're going to pick an alternate browser when the ballot box is rolled out on windows update over the next days. with IE8 already working for them, they're not likely to switch.

But how many people will bother changing if ie8 is already installed. I'll load firefox, but a lot of people aren't even aware that other browsers are available for any system.

You're missing the point mate. There isn't a browser selection screen yet but it will apparently be added by update on release day. So anyone who happens to receive Win7 before release day would have pre-ordered it. The people who don't know about other browsers will get Win7 the next time they buy a prebuilt machine on or after release day where there will be a select screen. (Unless the OEM has already selected of course)

I won't but that's because I prefer IE over FF or Opera or Chrome or anything else. It's MS's operating system and still don't get why those fat ***** in the EU forced them to do this. After all it is there own Operating System and they should be able to put what they want on it. I wonder how many people will buy Windows without Media Player for example.

Pleanty of people are aware of other browsers. You see it when you go to Google with anything other than Chrome installed. You see it when you go to Youtube, Microsoft using something other than IE8, etc.

So you'd speficially buy the version without Media Player? You'd save pretty much £0.

So assuming you've bought Windows 7 you've bought the none-media player version?

I'm just saying I'd buy a version without Media player and put one of the many far superior Freely downloadable media players (MPC-HC or VLC) on in its place.. just like I'd buy a version of 7 without ie8 on and put Firefox on in its place!...

Each to its own!!... I can't stand MS and its bloat (see Vista for example) but if there was a 'Stripped out' version available that'd be where I'd go (I know you can vlite it!!)!!... and Win7 seems to be a 'Bleatless' OS... (though I've not got it yet!!).

I've tried Linux and Mac before someone smart says "Bog off to the Dark Side!" :D

you can "remove" IE and WMP from 7 anyway. it's under "programs and features>turn windows features on or off" in control panel.
