Win 7 and old software

Ok I've come accross a few old games and progs that dont work under windows 7 now, all stuff that DID work under vista. The latest one is a cute little desktop game called mavity Wells. Basically I am wondering if theres any way to get them working at all?
And yes, I have tried compatability mode.
"The version of this file is not compatable with the version of windows you are running"

Was it 32bit vista?

Are you still on 32bit Win7?

Those games may have been 16bit, which you cant run on 64 bit windows IIRC.

It was old 32bit software working on 64bit vista but not working on 64bit win7
