Win 7 and X-FI

Do you need to install the Creative ALchemy program to make the sound work properly in games in Win7 the same as you do in Vista?

The sound stack is the same, so yes games that don't support OpenAL natively will need Alchemy for hardware accelerated sound.

You will still need to install Alchemy in order to utilise the EAX effects used in older games as a result of Windows Vista and 7 no longer using the hardware abstraction layer for Directsound resulting in the sound being mixed in software mode only. This doesn't happen in games using openAL, only games using Directsound.

Please note, the information provided in the post could be completely false but is my understanding of the situation.
