Hey Guys,

Need a bit of help here.

Yesterday evening I was online completing an online Tesc order via their website and suddenly each of my screens has horizontal lines all over them, and then the entire system bluescreened and started to restart.

I have NEVER had a blue screen on this install ever. It just came out of the blue and whilst I wasn't doing anything different to the normal.

Event Log said:

kernel-power event id 41 task category 63

Any ideas what that means, and how it can be prevented in the future?

Thanks

Neil

are you overclocked? i had those all the time for a while after doing a bios update (which in turn screwed my graphics driver somehow). the bsod gave atikmdag.sys as the problem file, so i uninstalled the graphcs driver, rebooted, let windows do it's thing with installing the cards, then put the new graphics drivers on. sorted.

Nope, Not overclocked.

Should I update my BIOS? I don't think it's been updated for a long time now.

The mobo is a Asus P5W DH Deluxe

well, i wouldn't update it just for this...

i'd be tempted to reinstall your graphics drivers, as this sounds gpu related (the horizontal lines bit).

if that doesn't work, i'd be tempted to say your graphics card might be on it's last legs

Sounds like a power surge. Try some stress testing, see if your system dies again.

If not - assume it's a one-off and continue. A single BSOD isn't the end of the world.

I have two ATI graphics cards in the system:

ATI X700 Pro
ATI HD 3600

What driver do I install? I just let Windows sort itself out when I installed the second one about 9 weeks ago.
