i am unable to install fresh copy of windows 7 on new ssd keep getting an error message unable to create or find existing system partition dont know what to do

near the start of the installation process, there should be an option to "install now" or select custom/advanced setup. Selecting the latter should allow you to create a partition prior to installing.

im installing from a usb drive as i dont have a installation cd never had a problem on normal harddrive, what is the best way to parttition? i though windows done it automatically

I would have thought the install process would be the same from a USB as it is from a CD.

Anyhoo, if the partition manager does not appear during install perhaps you could try clicking the repair link at the bottom left of the windows install menu.

There is a submenu beyond it that has a command prompt. From there you can use diskpart to prepare the drive.

This url might help.

i can create a partition but just not sure on the partition process and how much to partition

Unless you have decided upon how many partitions you want and how much space you want to allocate for each, I would just create a single partition for now using all available space. Windows 7 has a partition manager that you can run at any time after install.

If you are using diskpart, then the url I posted should work fine.
Or if you can get as far as the partition manager in the windows 7 installer then this guide should get you through it.. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/52291-partition-hard-drive-windows-7-install.html

got sorted i used a usb 2.0 stick that i usually use and it is working now :) it must have been my kingston usb drive stopping it from working for some reason lol thank you for the replies and help :)
