Hi all - after watching the support for XP die off I decided to give Win7 a go on my gaming rig. After using the compatibility wizard to confirm I could run it I bought the 64bit version (for the increase in RAM availability) and installed it as a custom install. Apart from the Vista look which isn't to my taste (Start Menu is very unfriendly - no quick launch etc) I've tried to give it a really good go but I've had soooooo many problems I can't see any point in keeping it. Can you help with the following?
1. The internet - accessed via Three 3G dongle (IE8/Chrome/Firefox) is almost unusable as the speed has dropped from 1.3mbs (XP Pro) to dial up and Facebook, Yahoo (my e-mail) and most other sites just won't load up. Dongle/3G is fine in the Vista laptop (which posted this thread
).
2. Shutdown - After choosing shutdown the PC itself doesn't shutdown after windows has switched off (like back to the old Win98 "Safe to turn off PC") and has to be manually switched off.
3. All Folders & IE8 - refuse to stay maximised regardless of which method I use i.e IE8 open 2 drag to full size close both using File/Close or Folders altering in Folder View on menu bar.
4. Slow Game/Video performance - Intel Xeon Quad O/C'd to 3.5Ghz, 4GB ram, Nvidia GTX280 - Played every game I had with no slow down at 1920x1080p rez on XP and now both Games AND movies stutter. Left 4 Dead 2 drops from over 100fps to 20fps (fraps) and most movies now have tearing in the middle of the screen (like V-Sync is messed up).
This was a fresh install with all current updates, all my drivers are WHQL 64bit cert'd and my spec is below - H2OC Trident from Overclockers -
