I'm well aware you can only install this on one PC, however can you transfer it between drives?

Like I was thinking of installing it on an old HDD until I could afford a new one, then get it on the new HDD and ditch the old one?

Or would i need retail to do that?

As long as it's on the same motherboard model, then yes you can reuse the OEM licence on as many drives as you want.
