Is this an win 7 problem or an hard drive problem. What it is, after i press the start button the win logo comes with Starting Windows. It will then hang there for some time with no activity coming from the hard drive. I know this because the Hard Drive blue activity light is barely working. Then all of a sudden it would burst into life, and the system will boot up fully.:(

Do you have a solid colour for your desktop?

There is a weird bug which slows down the startup if you are using a solid colour for your desktop, change it to a picture or create your own solid colour using paint or something.

try pressing ctrl al delete when it does it, if it is the 'solid colour' bug then that will let you in, also a screen shot of msconfig startup items would be helpful

Had a look through the msconfig, and seen the Win DVD. I have problems with that at the moment because it is version 9, so I disabled it from the start up, and rebooted the system. The boot up did not take as long that time.

yeah with win7 you can turn off lots more as it takes out all the key stuff it needs and your pretty safe to turn off as much as you want. Itunes is another big hog at start up, adobe and quicktime always add themselves in when there is no real need for them. I do IT call outs and lots of them are for 'slow laptops' first place i go is startup and quite often that does the job
