Win.7 Power Options keep changing!

I'm having a problem where my Power Options keep reverting back to 'balanced'.
This happens after nearly every restart.
I record audio so I want Max Power at all times, and I certainly don't want anything to go to sleep, but no matter how many times I change this it keeps reverting.

Has anybody else seen this or have any ideas? BTW, it's Windows 7 SP1 on a desktop.

check other software
sometimes motherboard software etc...

Did you build the PC or is it a pre installed shop thing? Sometimes they have their own (pointless) power management tools that override the Windows settings. This is why I always format a new pc

It's a home build and I just can't find anything else it could be other than Windows. I've searched the net and it seems a few people are having the same problem, but so far no solutions..
