On the "gadgets side" of the my screen I have some gadgets but they're the ones I used on Vista. They don't seemingly line up properly and are slightly askewed "on my desktop" if that makes any sense. Do I need to find other Win 7 compatible ones?

They're like this :

The top three are fine, but as can be seen the RAM, hard drive and G: can't be shifted closer together.

2a)I've pinned to the taskbar a folder that I want opened when Windows starts up, but instead of it opening or appearing during the mouseover, nothing happens. When I click on it Windows Libraries opens for some reason.

I've already written a batch file for another machine (automatic opening of folders), would modifying it be the easiest way of getting what I want done.

2b)Also - I've pinned Opera to the taskbar, upon right clicking it I seem to get my history in a little menu that pops up. How do I disallow this?

No idea what is going on with your gadgets. Have you tried manually moving them closer together?

You cannot pin a specific folder to the Taskbar. The reason you get Libraries is because you can only shortcut to Explorer. A batch script is probably a better idea if you want a folder to open on startup.

The list of items when you right-click on icon is the Jump List feature. A google search would have found how to disable it. Did it for you! :p

Ah, didn't see the first time round. Cheers for your help fella.

It's because some gadgets are designed to be used at a certain height, the CPU one for example is meant to be used with quad cores so the space fills up and the edge snapping distance is met. Probably could edit the config for it to make it snap on a smaller size as yours in:

C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets
