Win 7 run ok on this Spec?

Of course there will. She might as well buy go i7, 8gb of RAM and an ATI 5970 now. Would sure make her typing experience more fluid.

I don't know about your mother OP, but mine isn't bothered so long as the waits aren't horrific. It'll be fine.

LOL correct, she's not that bothered about wait times. To be honest she isn't that bothered about upgrading from XP as all she uses is IE, Outlook Express and the occasional Word Document. It's just that as her eyesight is going and she wants some of the features that win 7 has for people with eye sight difficulties.

I have an old Athlon 64 3200 with 1GB RAM, and it runs 7 perfectly well with aero etc on [a damn sight better than it ran Vista].

No worries provided the Hard disk is 30gb plus

I'm not up on older AMD processors but the rest of the spec is just fine. If the CPU is as quick as say a P4 3.0GHz then all is good. Also remember you'll need at least a 40GB HDD, with say 25GB spare.

OK just got round to installing win 7 on my mums machine and it's running fine. In many cases faster than her previous XP installation, so I guess there's no need to go for another GB of ram. Integrated sound card doesn't work though so she'l have to buy a new sound card.
