win 7 wont start ?

my son is running win7 which when running is OK , his problem is that from a cold start if you hit the button the PC powers up the unit but the mouse or monitor don't come to life and if you hit the reset button a few times it boots up - so what is happening ?

Try updaing your bios, sounds like a hardware problem, not a Windows one.

is that not a risk ? the board is a ga-945p-s3 it worked perfectly under xp and the only change is w7 ?

If the monitor or USB doesnt turn on from a cold start, then I cant see it being anything to do with installing Win7. as you're not even accessing windows at that point. Did you add anything else like memory, new disk etc when you upgraded to Win7?

win 7 was loaded onto a new hard drive (students) and added 2 gb of ram

So its not Win7 then. Upgrade the BIOS to start, if that dont work, take out the new memory or disk, see if it still does it.

If it were the OS, it won't affect stuff like the power on. It's a POST issue, in other words before windows even begins to load.

It's hardware / bios related. Try remove the old memory and test that if you want before the bios flash.

If got exactly the same problem on a spare computer. Surely if it was hardware related, it would never post and boot?

iv pulled the new ram out and loaded the old matched stuff the system has clean booted 2 times now which is an improvment , i will try that for a few days and see what happens

well that seems to be it , i think it was the ram ok fingers crossed it boots up ok
