win 7 x64 taking ages to load....

i have an i7 system. when i load up windows i get to the desktop and it takes at least 3 minutes to open ie8. and in the taskbar it my connection doesnt connect to my router for 3 mins also. anyone got any ideas?
tried cc cleaner. no virus;s

Is it a wireless connection? I'd disable the adapter, reboot, and see if it quickens up. If it does, it might be a driver problem so I'd download the most up-to-date driver for your adapter.

It's also worth checking the event viewer to see if it provides any clues. A slow start up could mean a number of things, but if it's a fairly fresh install it should not be taking 3 minutes or more to come to life.

It might be a add-on thats slowing it down. In IE8, click tools > Manage add-ons. It then shows you the various add ons and the time it takes them to load. Disable the one thats slowing it down (if its there)
