Sorry if this has been asked before, but I have failed to find an answer via the search function.

I am about to undertake a reinstall of Windows, so beg's the following questions:-

1) Is it worth moving the User files.
2) Any do's and don't do's ?
3) Could do with a good idiots guide to follow ???

My hard drives are WD Black not SSD

Thanks in advance
Syd

If you game a lot, then most, if not all of your saves will be in the my documents region. So, may want to back them up or download game save manager. I normally backup the important stuff from my profile, such as saved games, pictures, firefox profile etc. So, could be worth backing up bits of it you need.

Last time I reinstalled I did some fiddling around, then found a hack which should mean users created after you apply it are in (say) D: not C:

I didn't try it myself - suggest you do so immediately Windows is reinstalled e.g. apply it, reboot (the web page says log off, I prefer reboot), create another user and see where their folders are.

Whatever use you make of the system having all except the main admin user on another drive makes a lot of sense to me as so long as you don't accidentally wipe it, all their data is still there. User data can also get very large, which could be a problem if your Windows is on an SSD.

The other thing to try would be to create a 'new' user when d:\users\<username> already contains all the normal folders to see if it is OK with that.
