Hello all.

I have just bought a win8.1 tablet and have hit a problem with file sharing. As of yesterday the tablet was working perfectly fine on my network and I was transferring file between it and my PC without any problems. However now it wont work. I am on a WiFi network.

When on my PC (Me-PC) trying to connect to the tablet (Me-Tab) through My computer/Network it just pops up an error message saying the device is unaccessible. I can only see one instance of the Tablet.

When on the tablet I go to My Computer and then Network I can see Me-PC. However when I try to connect it pops up a login window asking me to enter my username and password to connect. The PC does not have a username or password to log in. I also notice that this log in window is trying to use a domain called "Me-Tab". Also in the network devices i can see the tablet listed twice as "Me-Tab" PLUS "MeTab"

My network does not use domains, all PCs are on a workgroup simply called HOME.

The PC (Me-PC) is set up for workgroup HOME.
The Tablet (Me-Tab) is set up for workgroup HOME

On both i have set:
Network type is "work" on the Win7 PC and "private" on the Win8 Tab
Network discovery - ON
File sharing - ON
Public folder sharing - ON
128bit encryption - ON
Password sharing - OFF
Let windows manage homegroup connections - ON

It seems to be stuck on thinking it is in a Domain called its own Device name, is there a way to completely reset all network settings? I have told the tablet to "forget" the wifi connection, restarted and reconnected several times to no effect.

Can anybody offer any advice before i turn this tablet into a firsbee out the window?

try setting both network types to home
Also make sure file sharing is enabled in the firewall for both devices

If your using a homegroup then it wont work with the work network type

Another thing is to make sure you have the same account on both systems and the network shares have permissions set correctly.

file sharing is a pain between windows 7 and 8.1 especially if on windows 8.1 your account is a microsoft online account.
