Win 8 and Win defender

I have turned Windows defender on in win8, but cant see it running in the task bar.....

Is an icon not meant to be there?

Also no need for any thing else right, windows defender is basically the same as mse (antivirus and antispyware)?

yep still running and yes it combines mse and and the others.

it all comes under the action center icon (flag) if you want to check.
