Win 8 Install Problem: Couldn't create partition

I am currently trying to do a clean install of Win 8 onto a brand new 840 pro, although I actually plan on installing users onto a separate data drive. However I have thus far been unable to get that far. Every time I try to choose the SSD to install windows to, I receive the error " We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files".

I have tried removing the Data drive, leaving only the SSD in the PC to get past this point to no avail. I have tried it with the drive unallocated, allocated but not formatted and allocated & formatted (NTFS). None of these made any difference. I have attempted formatting through repair ala http://blogs.technet.com/b/mempson/...-dreaded-couldn-t-create-a-new-partition.aspx but this also has not helped. There is no other storage connected.

Any ideas what is wrong? I am trying to install from a USB (FAT32, created by the Windows application I was linked to when I purchased Windows 8). The files aren't in an ISO.

Edit: Reformatted the USB & added the files again, no change. IDE mode tried, no change.

Ok - I used the tool with the iso generated by the windows app but it basically just generated the same files that were on the USB before. I tried it anyway but there was no change. I also tried changing the mouse and keyboard for simpler ones but this did not help.

Finally got it working using a dvd. I don't know why but it seems the installer simply didn't like my USB drive.
