May have already been asked so apologies in advance if it has.

Currently running Win 7 Premium Retail. If I purchase the upgrade will :

1. I have to re-install windows 7 first each time i want to re-install windows in future. Could be a pain if that's the case.

2. the upgrade tied in with the retail version of Win 7 i have i.e. will it allow as many upgrades as I choose, which is why I bought the retail version in the first place.

Thanks

1.) You can install the upgrade on a clean hard drive if you really want to, it just takes a little fiddling to get it to work, various threads have explained this process..

2.) All versions of windows have a hardware change reactivation limit. But so long as you're only installing it on one machine at any time, then I don't think you have a problem.

I did the upgrade online via MS. After checking your OS is valid for upgrade it gives the option to do a clean install, in doing so I downloaded an iso of Windows 8 Pro. Which didn't require any Windows 7 bits to be present at install, not the disk, not the licence, no phone activation, nothing. Just the Win 8 iso and the Win 8 key which they emailed me. I installed it on a fresh out of the box Intel 520. This was back in November though. They may have changed it.

No fiddling, once the upgrade key has been activated once you can clean install away.... There's a lot of confusion surrounding this subject.
