Hi -
Does anyone have any recommendations for tv cards? I only have analog terrestrial aerial tv so not interested in digital cards. Not sure if they're all much the same or if there are real differences in picture quality. I read a review of the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150MCE, which is able to record programs as well.

Any suggestions welcome! :)

Regards, Steve.

Analogue looks totally rubbish on a PC screen, you see every little bit of fuzz, even if you have a decent reception.

Hmm. Thanks for that. I'm obviously used to a lower standard - I used to have a pc card back when they first came out and didn't find it a problem. In any event I don't have an option. We can't receive digital via aerial in our area - and I'm not ready to get a dish yet...

Have had a pvr150-mce but recommend if you do go that route get the next one up - the 500pvr-mce as this will allow you to record a channel whilst watching another channel unlike the 150 version whereby you have to watch what your recording.

I have an analogue tv card and it's far from rubbish on my pc screen.

What I would say though, is make sure the card uses hardware mpeg encoders, as I've found cards that use software encoders don't have a sharper picture and lip sync can sometimes go when recording.

I am very pleased with my Hauppauge Win TV PCR 150 MCE

That's excellent - thanks for all the recommendations! :)

Just to check - the PVR 150 mentions XP media centre a lot. It doesn't only work with this OS does it? I've got XP Pro.

edit: ok, stupid question, I withdraw that!

edit: um - can I re-instate the question. Another supplier site (Overclockers is out of stock) says the HVR1300 is designed exclusively for XP Media Centre edition. So no go for XP Pro then?

Probably best to remove the competitor from your post. I have the MCE edition I posted above, and it works on XP no problems with it's own software.

You will find some MCE edition cards can be a bit more expensive as they come with the MCE remote control, if this isn't needed, look for the oem's and save yourself a few £'s.

I'm sure someone with the card you've posted will post soon.

Jack

I may well go for your recommendation anyway, thanks. Just quoted the 1300 one but they both seem to say they're exclusively designed for MCE, so it's useful to know that yours works ok.

Hi -
I bought this win tv card in the end.

Although the drivers were installed from the CD and it appears to be recognized and correctly set up according to the device manager, I'm not sure how to run it. There seems to be no application software with the CD - any suggestions?

As I said before, I'm running XP Pro, not MCE, which it's primarily designed for.

Regards, Steve.
