Hi guys,

Just installed win vista x86 version....

Unfortunately at random intervals I keep getting a blue screen error which is IRQL less or equal to...

Can't be my memory it worked fine with win xp x64 .....is this a win vista error?

Please please please help

Thanks in advance...

cheers

First test your memory with memtest86 though, just to make completely sure it's ok.

I think this problem is something to do with IRQ lines being shared, and if I remember rightly the IRQ is an "Interrupt Request Line".

That BSOD seems to be when two devices are sharing the same IRQL. In XP, you can go to Device Manager, then View -> Resources By Type, then click "Interrupt Request". It'll list all the hardware with IRQLs assigned.

My graphics card is IRQL 16, and it's shared with a RAID controller and USB controller. I think it's also common for it to be shared with a network controller. But you don't want it sharing the same IRQL as, say, a sound card - or a joystick can cause problems too.

Try disconnecting any 'peripheral' hardware, like sound cards, joysticks, etc. You might just have to move something into a different slot. You can change settings like the IRQL manually, but I really don't know enough to tell you how!

I learnt that on my journeys through solving the same problem btw. I can't remember when though... I thought it was my graphics card but that was giving me Infinite Loop, not IRQ. Maybe it was a mate having the problem. But yeah, that's all my knowledge shared wit'cha :D

thanks for sharing the knowledge you picked up along your travels :) most appreciated...

so know i need to know how to check the IRQ in win vista x86 version and then possibly reassign one which is being used...pah

if anyone knows how, please holla at me...

thank you very much indeedy

cheers

Hey, Below is a log of what devices are installed to which channels....could you kindly let me know if something here looks wrong?

I noticed channel 18 and 11 are being used by 2 - 3 different devices, is this the reason why I am getting BSOD IRQ memory errors?

Also since upgrading to vista 86 version, I have not installed my mobo drivers for my dfi lan party sli dr mobo as there isnt any, I have the mobo cd, but dont know if they are compatabile, could this be an additional reason why I am getting random BSOD IRQ memory errors??

Thanks in advance...

cheers...

IRQ sharing is very normal. This kind of Blue Screen is most often caused by faulty memory - use memtest86 for a LONG time (overnight, at least), not just a couple of passes.

Other culprit is usually awful drivers.

has to be the awful drivers then....but Im at a loss at to what drivers I install I have my mobo cd but will they even work for win vista x86???

at the moment win vista has installed all the drivers for me...

what do you think i should do?

pls help

cheers

The DFI site should have the latest chipset driver for your motherboard (and/or the chipset manufacturer - e.g. nvidia for nForce)
