so how much the page file in my XP PRO now should be for best performance ?
or should i just leav it as :"system manage size"
?

and can i make the page file load from another HARDRIVE ? (cos i don't have any room left in c:)
?

go to system properties, advanced tab, performance settings, then find the virtual memory bit where you can change your pagefile.

putting the pagefile on another hard drive then c: can actually make your computer faster in some cases.

If you put your (main) pagefile on another HDD (say D:\) you need to make a small pagefile (static) on C:\ (50MB for XP, 200MB for Vista) to ensure a memory dump can be created if you get errors (BSODs)...

I have 4GB of ram, and have a 4GB (static) pagefile on another HDD, with a 200MB (static) pagefile on C:\, as I am using Vista (64bit).

The best way to find out what works best for you, is simply experiementation...

But are the memory dumps actually of any use? They can't be read by ordinary users like us and need to be sent to the developers of the failing program to be analysed. How often does that happen?

Let Windows manage your page file.
Wrong answer. Letting Windows do the job can lead to a fragmented page file. I was taught many years ago to set the minimum and maximum size the same so all the space is allocated straight away and in one contiguous chunk.
