Hi guys, im hoping to finish off my new rig this week, but the only copy of windows i have is XP Home 32bit. I know this isn't going to make full use of my gpu (without dx10 etc), but im more worried about the ram.

Recently purchased 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600mhz DDR3 to go with an i7 920, yet the version of xp i have will only support 4gb max. When i install the ram will xp boot with tri-channel setup and just leave one of the 2gb sticks redundant, or will it not boot at all with too much ram?

Im not against buying a copy of vista, but windows 7 seems to be quickly approaching, so it would be a lot cheaper for me to skip vista altogether and run xp with a bottlenecked pc until 7 arrives.

Any thoughts?

It will boot fine, you just won't see all the RAM (<4GB). If I were you, and not intending to run a 64-bit OS for a while, I'd save money and just buy 3GB.

it's too late now, i already bought the ram when it was on weekly offer :p
i do plan on getting a 64bit OS asap, but is 7 expected to be out this year?
If its not out till next year then ill get an OEM of Vista 64 Home Premium

just been reading around and a lot of sources are claiming that windows 7 RC1 is gonna be out on 10th April. That's much closer than expected!
