win xp boot troubles

Hi,

My pc boots up fine, I see the windows screen, but instead of going into the desktop the screen goes dark...which means the screen is work and all my components, could it be a software problem?

From the win xp logo it just will not go into desktop, any ideas why? or whats happened? do I need to format my harddrive? pls help

P.S. Ive just run the safe mode and it will not even bring up the xp logo now? I think its a potential software issue? a reformat should fix it??

i think a fresh reinstall should fix it, what do you think?

Sounds like a software issue to me, especially if it's not booting up in Safe Mode.

Did you install any software just prior to this problem happening?

A fresh install *should* fix it but without knowing more info nobody can be sure. Maybe a fresh install of Linux would fix the problem?

well i did a fresh install and hey presto, its all good....

thats really random, i wonder how it happened..
