Win XP - Deleted Users

Hi there,

I have an HP laptop which is currently running XP. I have it on a wireless network and have recently installed Norton Firewall etc.

When trying to access the settings in Norton it kept telling me i was not the authorised user even though there was only 1 user profile of Administator on the system. By hitting log off and then selecting Administrator again it would allow me access to all settings of Norton.

This got a bit tedious each time + a few other programs didn't want to work without going through the same process.

So... i was in a section in Control Panel, the name escapes me, and i disabled the Guest and Administrator user profiles (a small red cross appeared on the users 'head' icon) meaning that all profiles were off. I thought this would have allowed me to boot up, and go directly into windows without the profile screen.

Unfortunately, windows now displays the screen asking me to select a user but there's no icon - i'm stuck! I've tried all options like safe mode etc but cannot seem to bypass it.

Can someone help me out please?

p.s. there are no passwords on any profiles

Rosco :(

I'm guessing the screen which you were in was called Local Users and Groups- lusrmgr.msc ? I honestly can't think of anything you can do though apart from a password reset disk- we use one at school given to use by county which blanks the administrator password and if you're lucky, it may even re-enable it :)

I don't have anything like that i'm afraid.

I think i went into Control panel > Administrative Tools and that was where i disabled the users!?

And that's why you can't now logon to Windows. You have NO active users to logon. Looks like a format might be the quickest fix. Either that or stick the hard drive in another system as a second drive and find a tool to unlock the disabled users.
