got a bit of a problem - i tried to install visual pinball at the weekend - didn't quite work so i got rid of it.
part of the process was to install a load of new fonts.
well, now my pc takes a lot longer to boot up and i assume its due to the fonts.
looking at the font folder its difficult to tell which were there before and which i installed.
is there an easy way to restore the fonts folder to only the ones that i used to have?

i have a copy of the old folder (from acronis) but obviously i cannot delete the fonts folder and replace it.

i'm a bit new to this type of thing!

any help?

could write a quick little vb script that checks the "date created" or "date modified" for each file in c:\windows\fonts and then deletes any item that was created after a specified date ... just an option?

the dates are all over the place.

i've found a little program called font frenzy which reckons it can remove all rubbish fonts leaving the ones xp came with - i'm going to give it a try. i could then reinstall the fonts from my acronis back up folder to get ones i used to have - i'll let you know how it goes.

I'm going off memory here, but I think TweakUI had a feature to repair the fonts folder. It's a Microsoft program so may be better than some random program from the internet.

ah yes, i have treakUI, but assume it will only repair broken ones and not remove the rubbish ones. thanks anyway, i think i have solved my problem - i'll have to just use my pc as normal and see if i am missing any essential fonts.

Was just looking for a link for it, glad you got it sorted anyway:)
